Real Madrid comfortably beat Cádiz 2-0 in a game where the whites dominated practically from start to finish and where only a lack of success and a great David Gil prevented victory. Rodrygo and Benzema had plenty of chances but it was Nacho and Asensio who scored.

The Brazilian, who played on the left due to the absence of Vinicius, had a fine match but made a mistake, just like Benzema, who also had two or three very clear ones. It wasn’t until the final stretch that a whiplash from Nacho from the front managed to take down a David Gil who looked impregnable.

Pleasantly, Asensio, in a counterattack, would put the final 0-2 to put the Whites ten points behind Barcelona and ensure they go through in the second half. Cadiz remain fifteenth with 31 points, four above the relegation zone.

Comments from Cadiz vs. Real Madrid of the 2022-2023 competition

Ancelotti, in press conference

Asensio. “He is at the same level as last year. He may have played a little less, but he always performs. He is a decisive player because he helps with goals and assists.”

The team game. “Yes, I stand by that. At an important time of the season. It wasn’t easy, but the attitude of the players on the pitch was spectacular.”

Schedule for changes on Tuesday. “This game makes you doubt. More doubts. Because many have complied. Tchouaméni played very well, Ceballos, Asensio… doubts but having the peace of mind of having many resources in the bank”.

Physical condition of the equipment. “We are very good, you can see that on the pitch. The team has energy and the information we have is that a 35-year-old player (Benzema) played a fantastic game on Wednesday night and the same three days later. It is the sign of the great physical moment that the team has”.

Anger that the team has not had continuity in the league. “Yes, it could be better. I think we paid a lot in January, when the team was not as good as it is now. We lost points, that puts us at a disadvantage now.”

Benzema 90 minutes. “I see him so good and so fresh… I was a little sad that he didn’t score, but he played very well, it was a pleasure to watch him. I wanted to enjoy his quality on the pitch.”

Vinicius and Kroos. “They’re going to play, they couldn’t play this match because they had a little discomfort, but today they trained individually, tomorrow they train and on Tuesday they will be at their best.”

Courtois, after the party

“I think we played a great game, but I think David Gil also played a great game and we could have scored more goals. Hopefully we saved it for Tuesday.”

“Maybe there was a lack of concentration or more will to score, but it’s also the keeper’s credit. We won, that’s what counts”.

“Yes, there have been changes because we play on Wednesday, Saturday and Tuesday and the coach wants us to be fresh.”

“It’s kind of our fault that we’re so far away in the league. We still have to play in the cup final, the quarter-finals of the Champions League and the other two teams don’t have it. That’s why it’s important to have continuity in La League.” “If you do well, you take it to the next game. We are physically fit and we will be fine on Tuesday”.
