Together with the Artistic Group, we created a mural in honor of the world champion captain in Buenos Aires. Know the history and where to find it.

“Duck, I want to do this with Messi”. The Argentina captain was playing the best World Cup of his life at the age of 35 when the content creator and artist, @Chulengol, suggested to me, Patricio Tarruella, editor-in-chief of GOAL en Español, the opportunity to create a piece of art paying homage to the 10 albiceleste as he showed me a wall already made with the image of Diego Maradona. Sorry for the self-referentiality, but this project needs context. Or maybe not so much.

The bet was big, with Chulen we started working months earlier on a different type of content (video) for GOAL’s social networks and a mural was something that didn’t cross our mind. But we were sure that the World Cup story would end in the best way, it was worth a try. After getting approval from Lucas Bertellotti, director of the Spanish edition of the site, we started brainstorming about this idea together.

With Argentina inaugurated in Qatar, Chulen gathered his colleagues from the Boedo Artistic Group, with whom he collaborated to create the mosaic in honor of Diego Maradona, and they began to conceive and sketch the tribute to La Pulga with the idea that he would be present in a public space and can transcend time.

The project included hundreds of ceramics, a backdrop that hinted at the Argentine flag, and some gold firuletes from Buenos Aires representing the city and the inauguration of the World Cup. The most important thing was still missing, finding a place to record this art.

After discussions with the artistic group, the Municipality of 5 of Buenos Aires, which corresponds to the neighborhoods of Almagro and Boedo, offered a wall in the so-called “Mini” Plaza Constitución. We already had the canvas for the mosaic and had to get to work.

The mosaic took between three months of work to complete 12 days assembly and 3 days painting. To make it, 168 tiles, 20 liters of paint, 30 kilos of cement glue and 10 kilos of paste were used.. In March 2023, the installation started and it was inaugurated together with the local residents.
