Former Russian Formula 1 driver Daniil Kvyat has announced that he will race in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) under the Italian flag and with a racing license from that country.

On April 13, it was learned that the 28-year-old racecar driver has become the factory driver for the Lamborghini Squadra Corse team, which will compete in the WEC in 2024.

“How does it feel to perform with an Italian racing license? I think sport should bring people together. But I don’t feel like I’m speaking for a foreign country. I grew up in Italy, spent my teenage years here, and that’s why I chose to perform under the Italian flag alone” says Kvyat La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Recall that at the end of February, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) addressed international sports federations and recommended that domestic and Belarusian athletes should not participate in any competitions.

The International Motor Sports Federation (FIA) has not completely excluded the Russians from competitions under its auspices. Local athletes continue to compete in tournaments under the neutral flag.

Previously, the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Maria Zakharova spoke About the tendency to change Russian sports citizenship.
