German tennis player Alexander Zverev accused Daniil Medvedev of cheating after losing to the Russian in the 1/8th match of the Masters tournament in Monte Carlo.

The athletes spent a little over three hours on the field. The match ended with the scores of 3:6, 7:5, 7:6.

“He’s one of the most unfair players in the world. I take fair play and sports ethics very seriously. He doesn’t. He takes a bathroom break when he shouldn’t.

There are thousands of situations where he feels like I’m starting to play better and he tries to do something every time. As an athlete, I was extremely disappointed with him.

Of course, you can criticize me for being distracted. This shouldn’t happen to me and it’s totally my fault and it was really bad on my part. But I still think fair play should always be a part of sports,” Zverev said in a post-match interview with Sky Sports.

It is worth noting that this is Medvedev’s first win on dirt ground in the history of all his matches against Zverev. Now the total score is 8:6 in favor of the Russian.

In the quarterfinals, Medvedev will play Denmark’s Holger Rune.

Currently, the 27-year-old Russian is in fifth place (5150 points) in the ranking of the Professional Tennis Players Association.
