Today, as part of the National Hockey League (NHL) regular season, the Edmonton Oilers hosted the San Jose Sharks on their ice fields. The match ended with the home team winning with a score of 5:2.
Among the winners, forward Connor McDavid scored with only one assist. He scored 64 goals and made 89 assists in 82 games of the season. Thus, the Canadian could not repeat the success of Russian forward and Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin in goals in one season.
Only a Russian has scored more goals in the NHL regular season than McDavid in the 21st century. In the 2007/08 season, he managed to score 65 goals – this is a league record.
Ovechkin has appeared in 74 league games this season, scoring 42 goals and providing 33 assists. However, this did not help the Capitals reach the playoffs of the tournament.
Now the Russian has 822 goals scored in his NHL career. Wayne Gretzky is 72 goals behind. Canada remains the first among snipers in NHL history, due to 894 goals.
It was previously reported that “Washington” lost in Ovechkin’s last game of the current NHL season.
