Italian national team Igor Gorgonzola Novara’s volleyball player Giulia Ituma died after falling from the window of a hotel in Istanbul. It has been reported Corriere dello Sport.
Yesterday, Novara played the second leg semi-final match with Eczacıbaşı. The Italian team lost with a score of 0:3.
After the match, the guest team returned to the hotel. Ituma fell from a hotel room window late at night and died instantly. The circumstances of his death are being investigated. Suicide was not excluded.
As part of the Italian national team, Giulia Ituma won gold medals at the European Youth Championship and the World Championship, as well as at the Youth Olympic Games. She was of Nigerian descent but was born in Milan.
Mauro Berruto, the former head coach of the men’s national volleyball team, offered his condolences on Ituma’s death.
“I was shocked by the tragic death of 18-year-old Novara volleyball player Julie Ituma. “My condolences to her family, club and the entire great Italian volleyball community,” said Berruto.
