Alexander Ovechkin, captain of the National Hockey League (NHL) “Washington Capitals” team, will return to action in the near future after his injury. Portal reports Athletic.

According to the source, an athlete recovering from an upper body injury will be ready to return to the ice “any day”. In his 18-year career in the NHL, the 37-year-old Russian hockey player missed only the 30th game due to injury: he couldn’t help his team in the Islanders game last night. During his career in the overseas league, Alexander missed a total of 55 games for various reasons.

It is noteworthy that Caps was able to break a six-game losing streak without Ovechkin. The capital’s team confidently outstripped the “islanders” on their ice. In the 14th minute, Washington took a 3-0 lead with goals from Dylan Strome, Rasmus Sandin and Craig Smith. The remaining four goals in this match were scored in the last five minutes of the meeting, while the Capitals hit the empty net twice – first Tom Wilson and then Strome scored a double.

Before the end of the current regular season, Washington has two more games to play, but the results will not affect the team’s standings in any way: for the first time since 2014, the Capitals failed to qualify for the playoffs. What’s more, the Caps are the top NHL goalscorer since January 1, 2023, with just 30 points in 39 games since the start of the calendar year.

Previously reportedRangers forward Artemy Panarin has scored his 27th goal this NHL season.
