The Moldovan Football Federation (FMF) has fined local club Zimbru for anti-Russian banners hung by fans during the match with Sheriff in the national championship. official website of the organization.
For the match played with “Sheriff” on April 1, “Zimbru” supporters carried two political banners and hung them in the stands. According to the report, the club was fined $1,650.
This is not the first incident of this kind at a football stadium. At the stadium in Larnaca, Cyprus, officials lifted an anti-Russian banner from a Dynamo Kiev supporter during the Ukrainian club’s match against local AEK in week 5 of the Europa League group stage.
The club was also fined for the behavior of the fans. During the match, they lit smoke bombs, chanted obscene slogans against the opposing team, and threw plastic bottles on the field.
