The Spain Super Cup promised a revolution in football and it has been. How the tournament works:
The tournament will be played by the top two finishers of La Liga de Primera División and the two finalists of the Copa del Rey will face each other in a semi-final and the subsequent final, without a match for third and fourth place.
In the 2022-2023 season, the first participants are the Betis, as cup champion of the king, the Valencia, as runner-upand the Real Madridwho is already confident of finishing second in LaLiga at the very least.
Coincidentally in the League and Cup champions, the entrants are the top-ranked in the League, which would allow the third and fourth-ranked of the National League Championship to play the competition as the League Champion and Runner-up the same as the champion and runner-up of the cup, but a priori this will not be the case in this edition.
Format:
The rules state that the League champion meets the runner-up of the cup and the champion of the Copa del Rey the runner-up of the last League.
In addition, the 4 participants in the Super Cup exempt from the first two Copa del Rey qualifiers.
Where to play: stages and stadiums
The tournament was played in its first season after the tournament’s refurbishment in Saudi Arabia. However, the 2020/2021 season was played on Spanish soil due to covid, in particular the semi-finals were played in Córdoba and Málaga, and the final in the Stadium of the Cartuja in Seville.
The 2023 Final Four will be played in Saudi Arabia, specifically at King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, a modern stadium with a capacity of 62,000 spectators.
