There is a positive trend in the case of the Olympic champion in ice dancing. According to the news of Sport-Express, doctors stitched and dressed the tracheostomy, that is, the place where the trachea and the external environment are closed. At this time, the spread of necrosis is also stopped, so a few days ago, according to media reports, the skater underwent another amputation surgery (some sources report the removal of the fingers on the left hand, others – the hand entirely). Now doctors believe that a new surgical intervention is no longer necessary.

The source reported that cerebral circulation was normal, while the doctors continued to administer droppers and injections, the drugs given were aimed at repairing the internal organs. It is worth remembering that a few days ago there was information that due to a large number of drugs, the liver function of the skater began to deteriorate. The organ is now receiving “high-dose therapy.”

At the same time, the conscious skater gradually restores the daily functions of the body – he drinks special food, learns to chew and swallow, and also tries to sit down – so far this can only be done with the help of other people.

On March 27, RT reported an improvement in the skater’s condition and, citing his source, stated that Kostomarov was ready to begin rehabilitation, various monitoring was carried out aimed at examining the body to find out whether the athlete is ready for prosthetics. .

“The ventilator was turned off, the tracheostomy was opened, all surgeries were completed. Now monitoring is being done to make sure it’s possible to move on to the next stage of treatment – Kostomarov’s prosthetic preparation. He is constantly fully conscious and motivated to begin rehabilitation.”

Konstantin Ternovoi, head of the department of medical rehabilitation, said that Kostomarov’s rehabilitation process may take a long time, but bionic prostheses that a skater can wear can give him the opportunity to play sports.

“Healing is a long process. In my opinion, Roman could be involved in prosthetics in three months. Kostomarov survived two strokes, he has one deficiency, so his recovery will take a long time. For prosthesis, the person must be completely healthy and out of intensive care. After that, you can work on bionic prostheses. I don’t think prosthetics are the most important thing for Roman anymore.

Today, of course, prosthetics won’t be able to make a prosthesis like Luke Skywalker, but we’re already close to it. We carry out such rehabilitation with the help of bioprostheses, but this is a very individual process.

We need to work on this directly with Kostomarov,” Sport24 quotes Ternovoy.

Resuscitator-anesthesiologist Maria Yudina also stated that Kostomarov can return to normal life with prostheses, and that the necessary prostheses will be made for Kostomarov.

“If the brush is held for him, that’s fine. And if not, then now medicine is flourishing, not the Stone Age. They will make the necessary prosthetics and Roman will do whatever he wants: maybe he will discover something new for himself or find something to do on the old site. The main thing is that a person has a clear head. At 46, life is just beginning, ”says Yudina MSK1.RU.

At the same time, it is worth noting that on March 24, Sport-Express reported that Kostomarov may face partial amputation of his left arm, in addition to what had previously been carried out. Yudina suggested that the decision on the need for amputation was made by an entire council of doctors who examined the skater several times a day. He stressed that another amputation would not put an end to Kostomarov’s chances of returning to a full life.

“I’ve seen a lot of comments saying why he’s living without limbs, but that’s complete nonsense. Roman needs to continue to be treated, rescued and supported, he’s a young and strong man,” he said.

At the same time, Yudina expressed the opinion that Kostomarov would suffer from asthenic syndrome for a long time – a disease characterized by increased fatigue, irritability, emotional instability and possible disruption of the respiratory, cardiovascular, digestive, excretory and endocrine systems.

“Roman is an athlete and will likely get bonuses from his body during rehab. But asthenic syndrome can last long enough. Even after a severe flu, a person walks sluggishly for three weeks. Roman knows how to support himself physically, and a psychologist and his family will help him cope with his morale. “The most important thing now is to survive,” he said.
