Valentina Rodionenko, head coach of the Russian national gymnastics team, criticized the latest recommendations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for Russian athletes.
“I will only be responsible for gymnastics. Although all kinds of consultations with the PRC and the Ministry of Sports are currently ongoing, I can confidently say that our gymnasts will not participate in the Olympic Games under these conditions. None of the gymnasts will agree to betray their homeland! ”, – quotes Rodionenko RT.
The organization recommended that the Russians be allowed to remain in a neutral status if the athletes did not actively support the war. Athletes representing law enforcement and armed forces will not be allowed to compete.
Recall that on February 28, 2022, the IOC made an appeal to sports federations and advised not to allow domestic and Belarusian athletes to participate in any competitions.
On March 4, 2022, the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) decided to ban Russians and Belarusians from participating in competitions under its auspices from March 7 due to the situation in Ukraine.
Formerly Vyacheslav Fetisov He expressed uncertainty that the IOC would not later impose new requirements for the Russians.
