Thomas Bach, head of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), expressed hope that the Ukrainian national team will take part in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris if Russian athletes are allowed to compete.

“Many athletes from warring countries have competed in the Olympics, including athletes from warring countries. If we decide to have athletes from Russia and Belarus participate in the 2024 Olympics, which we have not yet held, we hope, based on this experience, that the Olympic spirit will prevail in this case too, ”said the official. The upcoming Summer Olympic Games will be held in the French capital from July 26 to August 11, 2024.

It should be recalled that at the meeting of the IOC Executive Committee on March 28, the issue of admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes to international competitions was discussed.

The organization recommended that the Russians be allowed to remain in a neutral status if the athletes did not actively support the war. Athletes representing law enforcement and armed forces will not be allowed to compete.
