Norway ready to grant sports citizenship to Russian chess players

Anniken Vestby, President of the Norwegian Chess Association, said the organization is ready to accept applications from Russian athletes to change sports citizenship.

The official said that the main criterion for issuing a Norwegian passport would be non-support for hostilities.

“With regard to the Norwegian Association, our position remains the same regarding participation in tournaments and applications for sports citizenship.

If the player supports Putin and is therefore fighting, such applications will be rejected. All other submissions will be carefully considered by us,” Westby quotes NRK
