President of the All-Russian Federation of Rhythmic Gymnastics Irina Viner-Usmanova commented information Reports that in 2023 the Universiade in Yekaterinburg cannot be held on time TASS.

“Today, I heard the statement that the sanctions will be lifted when the special operations are over. This is another talk that goes nowhere, and now we are talking about postponing the World Student Games,” Viner-Usmanova said.

Viner-Usmanova also suggested that Russia could skip the 2024 Summer Games.

“It would be funny if it wasn’t so sad, but this puppet theater continues,” he added.

The Universiade was to be held from 7 to 19 August 2023. Russian athletes are prohibited from participating in competitions under the auspices of FISU until at least the end of 2022.

On February 28, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) addressed the sports federations and recommended that they not allow domestic and Belarusian athletes to participate in any competitions.

After that, a number of sports organizations decided to remove some major competitions from Russia and not allow Russian athletes to compete. This has affected skiers, biathletes, swimmers, hockey players, football players, Formula 1 drivers, cyclists and many more.
