Former Spartak Moscow striker Valery Kechinov talked about calling his top three players to the Russian national team ahead of friendly matches against Iran and Iraq and the team’s possible participation in an international friendly tournament to be held under the auspices of the Central Asian Football Federation. According to the expert, when the Russian national team does not have the opportunity to participate in official competitions, the coaching staff has the right to try the composition and meet new players.
“Now is the time to try and review players that coaches, experts and fans may not be familiar with. There are no competitions and the tournament will be friendly to say the least. It’s one thing for a coach to see a player playing for his club and watch parts of the game. The other thing is that when you invite him to training camp, see how he behaves in training and in daily life, he gets to know him better. Everything is done correctly,” Kechinov told socialbites.ca.
For the first time, Ural goalkeeper Ilya Pomazun and Spartak players Daniil Denisov and Danil Prutsev were called up to the Russian national team. The training camp of the national team begins on March 19 at the Novogorsk base near Moscow. On March 23, the wards of Valery Karpin will play with Iran in Tehran, and on March 26 in St. Petersburg, the Russian team will play a friendly match against Iraq. The team’s participation in the Asian tournament is tentatively scheduled for June.
