Russian gymnasts have published an open letter requesting to cancel the disqualification of Irin Viner, president of the All-Russian Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation (VFCG) and head coach of the national team. The text of the letter was published on the website “RIA News”.

“Giving Ms. Wiener a prolonged suspension would seriously damage rhythmic gymnastics as an Olympic sport. Thanks to people like Ms. Wiener, our sport is growing and developing.

In the letter, given her situation before the world of rhythmic gymnastics and her undeniable virtues, Ms. Wiener asks you to make every effort to restore justice and cancel disqualification.”

Wiener was suspended for two years. The reason for this decision was public statements made by Wiener after the Russian gymnasts failed to win a gold medal at the Tokyo Summer Olympics.

Viner will not be allowed to participate in international competitions under the auspices of the FIG as coach, head of delegation or in any other role. The sanctions will come into effect the day after the suspension of Russian athletes from international tournaments is lifted.

Recall that on March 4, 2022, FIG decided to prohibit Russians and Belarusians from participating in competitions under its auspices from March 7, due to the situation in Ukraine. In June, athletes missed the European Championships in Israel.

Formerly Irina Viner spoke about your disqualification.
