Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) champion in the lightweight and featherweight divisions, Conor McGregor, attended the Washington Capitals and National Hockey League (NHL) New York Rangers home game during the regular season.
The Irishman was given the team jersey with his name and number 12 from New York. After the match, the mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter was able to visit the Rangers locker room, which won the match with a score of 5:3.
McGregor congratulated the hockey players on their success in the last game.
“There were almost a few fights on the ice today but we didn’t need them. Guys, congratulations on the victory, great game!” McGregor told the New York Rangers.
The 34-year-old McGregor’s last fight was in a duel with American Dustin Poirier at the UFC 264 tournament. The match was completed in the first round, resulting in the Irishman breaking his foot.
At the end of October 2022, it was reported that McGregor could return to the octagon in six months at the latest. An athlete must pass a six-month doping test and also provide two negative tests in order to participate in the competition.
