Ukrainian tennis player Lesya Tsurenko defeated Croatia’s Donna Vekic in the Masters second round match held at American Indian Wells.
The match ended in favor of Ukraine with the scores of 2:6, 6:2, 6:2.
At the end of the match, there was an unpleasant incident involving both athletes. While Tsurenko was enjoying the victory, Vekic did not wait for him in the net and went to the bench and packed his things.
The Ukrainian woman approached the net, then stepped towards the Croatian tennis player, extended her hand for a handshake, but did not turn to him. Vekic’s reaction caused a disapproving hum in the stands.
In the next round, Tsurenko’s opponent will be the winner of the match Arina Sobolenko (Belarus) – Evgenia Rodina (Russia).
The tournament’s prize fund is $8.8 million. The current champion is USA #1 Taylor Fritz.
