The Concacaf Champions League has a new tiebreak criterion from the 2023 edition.
The Conca champions 2023 starts with the round of round of 16where 16 teams come from Central, North America and the Caribbeanthey will try to advance to the stage and become one of the top 8 teams in the region.
Seattle Sounders is the current champion of the league by beating UNAM Cougars by global score 5-2. Now, the Mexican teams (Atlas, Lion, Pachuca And tigers), will try to restore the hegemony they have maintained in the area for 16 consecutive years and restore the crown for this new edition.
The special feature for this edition is the new tie-breaking criteria, since then the visitor’s goal will no longer be worth double and new criteria will be added to determine the winner in case of a tie during regulation time.

WHY IS THE AWAY GOAL NOT WORTH DOUBLE IT IN THE 2023 CONCACHAMPIONS?

The FIFA, the mother house of football, decided to adjust the away goals rule for all member leagues. This means that the Concachampions is not the only tournament in which this criterion no longer existsbecause it was gradually thrown out of all leagues around the world that had this rule.
The first game to do this was the UEFA Champions League in the 2021/2022 edition, to allow all competitions with official validity before FIFA to do so.

In the event of a tie during the 120 regulation minutes, the game will be extended with two extra periods of 15 minutes each. If the tie persists, the series is determined by penalties.
