The amputee football player triumphs in the vote for Richarlison and Payet.
The gala took place on Monday, February 27, 2023 Best of FIFA, in which the greatest football body has awarded the best player of the year 2022. Without a doubt, the most anticipated prize was the ”The Best’ for best footballer of the year, but also the best goal of 2022 has been recognized. The winner is for Marcin Olesky, who received the trophy from the Italian Alessandro Del Piero.

The 2022 Puskas Award from FIFA’s The Best gala is the award given to the player who has scored the best goal of the year. Voting was public and anyone could vote for their favorite goal here on the FIFA website.

In the past, Olesky played as a goalkeeper, but he couldn’t stand out enough to turn pro. That is why he was trained as a road worker. In November 2010, at the age of 23, he had a very serious accident and a machine fell on his legs, for which his left leg had to be amputated below the knee.
After the relevant recovery, which included two years in a wheelchair, he continued to work with a prosthesis and continued to play football on crutches, but no longer as a goalkeeper but as a striker.
The footballer has been playing in the Polish amputee league since 2019 and was called up for the World Cup with his team. In that tournament they lost to Brazil in the round of 16. Fourteen years after the accident, he receives the FIFA Puskas Award.
Overwrites Richarlison and Payet
For this 2022, FIFA had provided a first list 11 finalistsof which three players eventually came out, who chose the prize this Monday: Richarlison, Dimitri Payet, and Marcin Olesky.
The other eight players on the first list for the Puskas Award were Mario Balotelli, Amandine Henry, Theo Hernández, Alou Kuol, Salma Paralluelo, Alessia Russo, Kylian Mbappé and Francisco González Metilli.
