Cristiano Ronaldo is the grand hoarder of The Best awards in the first 3 editions
The award season in the football world has already started. After the start of the season, one of the most important awards is FIFA’s ‘The Best’, which is celebrating its fourth edition since the entity decided to break away from the ‘Ballon d’Or’, an award organized in partnership with France Football . magazine.
HOW OFTEN HAS CRISTIANO WON THE BEST PRIZE?
After five deliveries of recognition, the one who took the prize list is Cristiano Ronaldo. The current Juventus player won twice, the first two in the history of this trophy, ‘The Best’, during his time at Real Madrid.
The first prize in history, awarded on January 9, 2017, went to the Portuguese striker, who won the final with 34.5%, beating his biggest rival by almost 10 points in all trophies made, the Argentine Lionel Messi.

After winning the Champions League, among other trophies, amid the escalation of titles by Zinedine Zidane’s team, the one who was ‘7’ in the white box for almost ten years triumphed again in the second edition of ‘The Best ‘.
In the 2017 edition, it was the same receiver who beat Messi, again this time, and Neymar, the third seeded player for his appearance at FC Barcelona. With a score of 43.2%, even better than last year, Ronaldo won his second prize.

However, his streak was broken in the third edition. Cristiano Ronaldo, already at Juventus, handed over ‘The Best’ to Croatian Luka Modric, who was his teammate at the club from the Spanish capital until a few months ago. But he was not left out of the shortlist, as he was runner-up, less than ten percent of the midfielder’s vote.
In 2019 he was nominated again, along with Messi and Van Dijk. The forward came that season with a Serie A win with the Italian team, and a Nations League win with Portugal, scoring 31 goals in 47 appearances for both Juventus and Portugal. However, he came third behind the defender from the Netherlands and the Argentinian who eventually took home the prize.
The last award given was in 2020, the season divided by the pandemic. This time, the Portuguese surpassed Messi in the votes of players, fans and journalists, but was relegated to second place and surpassed by Robert Lewandoski, who won all categories.
In January 2022, at The Best 2021 awards gala, he received a special award that has not been awarded to any player to date. Cristiano Ronaldo receives The Best award for the greatest goalscorer of all time, a trophy that he personally receives in an act that closes the gala.
