Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) champion featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski has admitted to blaming himself for not doing more in the fight against Russian Islam Makhachev.

“Why not a few more laps? Like I said, I could have done more. “So I’m only going to blame myself,” Volkanovski said in a video released by the league’s press office.

On February 12, Makhachev defeated Volkanovski by unanimous decision after five rounds at UFC 284 in Perth, Australia.

This victory for the Russian took the 24th place in his professional career with a loss. He defended his lightweight title for the first time.

Makhachev won his first UFC belt in a duel with Brazilian Charles Oliveira at the UFC-280 tournament in Abu Dhabi on October 22. The Russian fighter won the second round with a suffocating grip.

Volkanovski secured a landslide victory over American Max Holloway in his final fight at UFC 276 in the summer of 2022, defending his title for the fourth time. The Australian took their second career loss with 25 wins.
