Washington Capitals head coach Peter Laviolette spoke about the timing of Russian forward Alexander Ovechkin’s team’s return to camp.
“Hopefully this week. I didn’t talk to him, but let’s see. He takes care of the housework. Let’s see what happens next,” said journalist Tom Gulitti, quoting the words of the Capitals coach on his social networks.
The 37-year-old Russian player has recorded 32 goals and 22 assists in 54 games this season. During his career in the National Hockey League (NHL), Ovechkin scored 812 goals and was ranked second on the all-time top scorer list.
On December 24, the Russian scored a corset and made an assist in the match against Winnipeg. It was the second puck that allowed the 37-year-old forward to beat the Gordie Howe record and move up to a clean second place on the snipers list in league history. Wayne Gretzky has 894 goals.
The Russian missed the last three games of the Capitals due to a trip to Russia. His father passed away the other day and he has decided to leave the club where he is.
Without Russia, the Capitals lost twice to Carolina and once to Florida.
