Mohammed MuleHaving won medals at the open-air European and world championships, the indoor track began its season. The best world brand of the year in the 1,500 meters run, at a meeting held at 3:35:48 on February 5 in Val-de-Reuil (France). However, as last year, Europe won’t be indoors will be held next March or at the end of this month at the Spanish Championship. Track season will end on February 22 He will compete in the Madrid match, which is included in the World Indoor Athletics Tour, at the Hauts de France Meeting on Wednesday, before tomorrow. Yesterday, at the sponsorship signing ceremony with the Gougo company, the athlete spoke privately to La Opinión.
With what goal did you meet the season on the indoor track?
I always have an indoor track to keep me fit and not race for six months, which is bad for the summer. Meeting 1,500, about 3,000, and strong is fine for me because that gives me a plus for the outdoors.
But won’t you go to the European Championship like you did when you resigned for the World Cup last year?
I know there are many people who want me to go to the European Championships, but they must understand that I am a human being too, that I have very clear goals and that this year they are focusing on summer and outdoor activities. It’s the World Cup and that’s where I want to be in good shape. I’d rather spend cartridges on very important things like the Diamond League and the World Cup in the summer than on the indoor track.
And we’re in a pre-Olympic year, so everything you do outside becomes even more important.
So the less energy I spend on unnecessary things, the better off essentials, which is later.
But that’s how everything is played on one card. Isn’t that a risk?
It’s not that I’m very confident in myself and my coach Gabi Lorente’s approach, and that doesn’t raise any doubts in me.
It went well last year. Is that why you chose to repeat?
That’s it. Last year was good for me, I gave up the indoor World Cup and the outdoor season went very well for me.
Have there been any changes in your preparations this winter?
What I see is better than last year, stronger at this point than just a year ago. When I did the 1,500, 3,000 and 5,000 records in 2020, I ran 1,500 in 3:36 in the hall and I almost did 3:35 the other day in France, a great mark for this summer. It means I’m better than last year.
So what will he do when the indoor track is finished?
My last race will be in Madrid on the 22nd, I don’t know if I will do 1,500 or 3,000 here and after that I will rest for a week and after that I will start working towards the summer. .
Do you continue with the 1,500 or 3,000 dilemma or is it already obvious?
On the indoor track I can combine both distances just fine, but outdoors I’ll focus on 1,500, but in Diamond League I’ll do about 5,000. I’m sure I’ll make 1,500 for the World Cup.
Why 1500?
Because now I see myself stronger, more experienced and more confident at that distance. I even thought of something that would be almost impossible, but I realize it’s possible, namely to get below my 3:28 mark and beat my record in Spain. Reducing my 1,500 points is an even bigger goal than the World Cup. And I realize that I can get it.
Do you think you have a mark of that caliber on your legs?
I think so too. I need to put a little more desire in it, but I think I can.
Do you consider yourself safer in high competition?
Yes, much more. I was very nervous even though I got great grades at the Olympic Games two years ago. I had no experience and was more confident in myself. Now I am more confident that I will go out to win.
Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen was undefeated in 2022. Do you think you’re closer to beating him now?
Yes, I’ve already beaten it in Monaco and it’s edible. It won’t be on the indoor track this year either, and there’s a reason for that.
Companies became interested in sponsoring him. What does all this bring you?
There are some companies that have seen me win big, that support me. This is a great privilege for me because it helps me both better prepare for the Olympic Games in Paris and calm down during training.
Paris 2024 is one year away. Do you have this goal in mind?
To tell the truth, I’m mostly thinking about the World Cup, which will be held in Budapest in August this year. When that happens, it will be time to think about the Olympic Games in Paris, but not before.
