The PSG Argentine star has won the Champions League four times, all with Barcelona.
Lionel Messi and PSG are looking to win the Champions League in 2022-23, a competition in which the Argentine has managed to shine over the years, winning several times with FC Barcelona.
The Barca star is the second top scorer in the continental tournament, with 129 goals. In that sense, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner is only behind Cristiano Ronaldo (140).
HOW MANY CHAMPIONS LEAGUE DOES RONALDO HAVE
If Messi is synonymous with the Champions League, it’s worth asking how many times the man from Rosario has won the top title at European level. For now, La Pulga won the trophy four times with Barcelona, and even managed to score at least one goal in two finals.
The South American star’s first title came in 2006, a championship in which he scored one goal and provided two assists in six games. Leo was unable to play from the quarter finals due to an injury. The culés, then led by Frank Rijkaard, won the final against Arsenal in Paris.
The second title, won in 2008/09 with Pep Guardiola as coach, played a bigger role: he played 12 of the team’s 13 games (they only lost the last one in the group stage), scored nine goals (including the one of the final in Rome against Manchester United) and giving five assists.
The third, achieved again with Guardiola in 2010/11, also saw him score in the final against the ‘Red Devils’ at Wembley. This time he would play every game, scoring 12 goals and providing four assists.
The fourth and last Orejona won it in the 2014/15 season, already with Luis Enrique as coach. He was a member of the terrifying ‘MSN’ and scored 10 goals in 13 games and provided six assists. He was unable to score in the final in Berlin against Juventus, but his shot ended in Luis Suárez’s goal after Gianluigi Buffon’s rebound.
