Olympic champion in speed skating, State Duma deputy Svetlana Zhurova, expressed the opinion that Ukrainians are unlikely to heed the call to abandon the boycott of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
On January 31, the head of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), Stanislav Pozdnyakov, urged the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine (NOC) to abandon the idea of boycotting the Games.
“The Ukrainians do not want us to be there in principle. We are no longer athletes to them. Consider at least what happened to football player Ruslan Malinovsky, who shook hands with Alexander Golovin. The Ukrainians have already excommunicated Malinovsky and now he is making excuses.
Athletes may disagree with the authorities’ position, but they do not say so. When the bullying begins, others join in. Pozdnyakov is doing the right thing, you can turn to them, but they will not even consider these calls, ”says Zhurova TASS.
On January 28, Verkhovna Rada deputy Zhan Beleniuk, who became the Olympic champion in Greco-Roman wrestling, announced on February 3 that the General Assembly of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine will consider the possibility of boycotting the 2024 Olympic Games.
Irina Rodnina, three-time Olympic champion in pair skating reacted to possible boycotts of the Olympic Games with the phrase “they hold the flag”.
