Two-time Grand Slam champion in singles, former world number 1 Yevgeny Kafelnikov spoke about the organizers of the Australian Open on his social networks. He posted a screenshot showing the organizers removing his nationality from the plate about the winner of the 1999 tournament.

“The only disappointment for me at this Australian Open was that the organizers of the tournament believed in 1999 that Yevgeny Kafelnikov was a stateless vagrant,” Kafelnikov wrote.

In 1999 Kafelnikov beat Thomas Inquist in the final of the Australian Open, becoming the first Russian to win the title.
