Two years disqualification
Russian athlete Sergei Litvinov, who specializes in hammer throwing, has been banned for two years for doping. The disqualification decision was made based on the Moscow Anti-Doping Laboratory database (LIMS) obtained by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) in agreement with the Russian Olympic Committee.
The disqualification period counts from 8 November 2021 and lasts until 7 November 2023. At the same time, all the results of the athlete shown in the competitions from July 14, 2012 to February 25, 2016 were cancelled.
Thus, Litvinov is deprived of the bronze medal of the European Championship, which he won in 2014.
Sergey was the youngest, sixth child in the family of famous hammer thrower Sergey Litvinov, who was a gold medalist at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, a silver medalist at the Moscow Games in 1980, and also a two-time world champion.
Sergei Litvinov Jr. followed in his father’s footsteps, although with less success. In addition to the 2014 European Championship, she became the champion of Russia a year ago.
“I doping under pressure”
It is interesting that Litvinov admitted on his own social networks that on the day of the official announcement of the disqualification, he really used doping in preparation for the 2012 Olympics, which he himself did not end up with.
“I was doping in 2012 and took advantage of the cover-up (doping) system in Russia. In 2012 I took turinabol and oxandrolone from the end of April to the end of May.
Before that, I shot 79m in February, improving the result by almost two meters with doping. The hammer flew without feeling good or good technique. Then I felt it was wrong. I lost all sense of the technique, which I had worked so hard on before, and the hammer flew, – wrote the athlete.
– I didn’t make the Olympic team in 2012 because I shot three shots on a penalty kick on the qualifying day of the Russian Championship.
After that year, I didn’t buy anything because I realized that this is not the sport I love. My motivation in the sport was to get better and improve in this very difficult technical discipline. I was interested in the training methods, technique and psychology of this sport. Improving the result without progress in these three directions, but with doping – does not bring pleasure and does not make sense.
At that time, the federation put pressure on me, but in the end, it was my decision and my fault. When the doping scandal erupted in Russia, I did my best to improve the situation in my country, establishing anti-doping societies and assisting with investigations such as those led by Hajo Seppelt.
In recent months, I have turned over all the details of my situation to the AIU (Athletics Anti-Negativity Authority). I want to apologize to the sports community.”

Recognition of Litvinov Jr. did not remain unresponsive. The head of the Russian Wrestling Federation (FSBR), Mikhail Mamiashvili, most vividly and sharply covered the broadcast of the athlete.
