Russian Premier League club (RPL) “Orenburg” Czech head coach Marcel Lichka commented on the political situation in Russia and Ukraine, noting that sport should stay out of politics.
“Do my acquaintances reproach me for continuing to work in Russia? No such thing. My friends and acquaintances understand that I am here for sports. I have always said that sport is non-political.
What is happening in Ukraine is very sad. I never thought that something like this could happen in the 21st century. But before that I worked in Russia, I have a valid contract with Orenburg, and I do not care about the rest, ”says the expert iSport.cz.
Lichka brought Orenburg to the RPL twice, but at the end of the 2020/21 season, the club was not allowed into the elite due to regulation changes.
After 17 laps, Orenburg is in seventh place in the standings. In the last round, the team defeated Krasnodar with a score of 5:1.
On 27 November, Marcel Lichka’s team lost to Dynamo Moscow in the Russian Cup. “Orenburg” took last place in the group and did not reach the playoffs of the tournament.
