Intercity and Eldense delivered an exciting country derby with emotion, good play and a lot of intensity. The equality that practically prevailed throughout the match was reflected in the score as well, with the final draw keeping Eldense at the top of the table and Intercity in the relegation zone with a single goal.
Even though Eldense missed a double penalty in the last half of the first half when the score was already 1-1, the result could be considered fair due to the values of both teams during the 90 minutes. The local goalkeeper stopped Soberón’s maximum penalty, but the referee ordered it to be repeated and on that second incident the Eldense player himself sent the ball over the crossbar. The leader missed this great opportunity to take the lead and eventually had to settle for a draw.
The start of the provincial derby showed a few good moments that began to be described as intense play, with an Eldense seeking control and an Intercity showing their greatest danger on the bench.
In the 11th minute, a cross to the far post found Cristian López completely unmarked. The leader, who met the ball under his chest and finished the match with his first goal, took the lead.
Intercity’s equalizer came in 18 minutes with Aarón Piñán’s good play and took advantage of the visiting team’s defensive error to beat Vallejo to equalize.
The leader responded well, linking a long game of contact and possession as a result of the away goal, even though he didn’t get any opportunities. It was about half an hour before the game started when Fernando Estévez’s team had two chances to take the lead again via Soberón, but they were unable to take advantage of it. The first move came with a shot over the goal, and the second with a mid-range shot from Álex Martínez, who crossed the goal line.
In the last half of the first half, Kecojevic’s penalty against Ortuño came and referee Usón Rosel did not hesitate to point it out. Soberón shot his ball in the 41st minute, but Manu Herrera guessed his intention and avoided the leader’s goal and cleared the ball. However, at the request of one of the lines, the referee ordered the shot to be repeated and for the second time Soberón was tasked with hitting from 11 meters, such a misfortune happened that the ball went over the crossbar. The leader failed to score twice and in the next game Aarón Piñán was about to put Intercity ahead on the scoreboard, even though his shot missed the mark.
Thus ended the heart-stopping first 45 minutes, which reflected a very exciting and level match that deserved the good work both teams did on the field.
The second part started with the same intensity and equality. Interctity were the first team to get a clear chance past the locker room in the 53rd minute, but Vallejo blocked the goal with a spectacular stretch as Soldevilla responded to a poisoned free kick.
As the minutes passed, Intercity managed to manage the game and time better against Eldense, who did not give up on the win and unsuccessfully sought the opposite court. Thus, Nieto’s head was close to surprising Manu Herrera after he took advantage of a cross sent by Carnicer into the heart of the region. Next up was Manu Nieto, who tried his luck from outside the region without major results.
The last chance to score in the match came to Intercity. After 90 minutes Pol Roigé made a long pass to find Etxaniz, but Vallejo stepped forward to catch the ball and avert a disaster for the leader.
The game didn’t give much of itself and ended with a fair distribution of points protecting the Eldense leader. On the next match day, Fernando Estévez’s team will host second placed Real Murcia at home, for the first place.
Intercity, on the other hand, could not get out of relegation today. The points they got were not enough for this and they will have to try again the next day when they will take the last of the group, Calahorra.
