The 2023 Club World Cup decides which team may wear the emblem of the world champion team for at least ten months. The current champions of the most prestigious club tournaments from different continents meet in Morocco in February.
Why the 2023 Club World Cup will be held in Morocco
The World Cup for club teams will be held in 2023 from February 1 to February 11 in Morocco, with city and location to be determined. On December 16, the FIFA Council was held in Qatar to announce a number of important matters, including the dates and country in which this tournament would be held.
The reason why this edition is played in Morocco is because that’s what FIFA has decided. For years the tournament was held in Asia, but this time the Club World Cup returns to Africa, where the 2014 edition was already held, which was won by Real Madrid.
Which teams will participate in the 2023 Club World Cup
The teams competing in the 2023 Club World Cup are the current winners of the different Champions Leagues of the continents. In this edition, the participants are the following
- Real Madrid (UEFA Champions League champion)
- Flamengo (CONMEBOL Libertadores Champion)
- Seattle Sounders (CONCACAF Champions League Champion)
- Al-Hylal (AFC Champions League Champion)*
- Wydad Casablanca (CAF Champions League Champion)
- Auckland City (OFC Champions League champion)
- Al-Ahly (runner-up of the CAF Champions League)*
*As the 2022 AFC tournament has not yet concluded, the Asian Football Federation decided that the current champion of the tournament in the 2021 edition, Al-Hylal, would be the representative of the Asian continent in the 2023 Club World Cup.
*Because the rules prevent two teams from the same country and Wydad Casablanca, in addition to the current African champion, is also from Morocco, the venue for the tournament, FIFA decided that Al-Ahly would complete the tournament. He is the current runner-up in Africa, the continent where this edition takes place.
