Elimination of the Clausura 2022 against Tigres
The Celeste team would reach the quarterfinals of the Clausura 2022 where they would face Tigres. Elimination from the tournament would come by an overall score of 1-0 in favor of the Felines.
Departure from Juan Reynoso
The Peruvian coach would leave La Noria with controversy under his belt. The mate who captured Cruz Azul’s ninth star would leave through the back door in the summer.

Arrival of Diego Aguirre
Cruz Azul would quickly find a replacement on the bench with the arrival of Diego Aguirre. Uruguayan coach with extensive experience in various leagues around the world. Inter de Porto Alegre are his most recent adventure.
MX Super Cup Champion
La Máquina would snatch the Super Cup title from the two-time Mexican soccer champion. Cruz Azul would go on to capture another professional title by defeating Diego Cocca’s Atlas on penalties.

Sale of Santiago Giménez to Feyenoord
The board of Celeste and Feyenoord Rotterdam would agree on the transfer of Santiago Giménez to the Eredivisie. This is the first Cruz Azul export to the Old Continent in more than a decade.

Worst win in history against America
Cruz Azul would fall 7-0 against América and in doing so would earn their worst win against history. The result would hit the dressing room hard and would have immediate consequences.
Departure of Diego Aguirre
After the worst win in its history, the board of Celeste fired Diego Aguirre as technical director of the first team. The Uruguayan won a title and left the team on matchday 11 of the Apertura 2022.

Arrival of Raúl ‘Potro’ Gutiérrez
The ‘Potro’ would take over the reins from Cruz Azul on an interim basis. The U-17 champion with Mexico would make his first challenge in Mexican football’s Maximum Circuit.

After the fateful win on matchday 10. Things at Cruz Azul would take an unexpected turn, adding five straight wins to qualify for the rematch.
