MMA fighter Maxim Novoselov, 49, was sentenced to five years in a strict regime colony by the Tushinsky Court in Moscow for the rape of an 18-year-old girl.

The athlete was detained in March after a party where he met two girls at the Ruki Vverh nightclub in Mytishchi.

Later, the victim called the police saying that she and her friend were abducted by a group of men. She also told the police that she was sexually assaulted.

As a result, the fighter was first arrested for two months, after which his stay in the detention center was extended to six months.

At the hearing, the prosecutor demanded a six-year prison sentence in the strict regime colony for Novoselov, while the defense demanded the acquittal of the athlete only because the victim’s testimony, which was also refuted by examinations, was used as evidence of guilt. case.

As a result, the court ruled against Novoselov and will now spend the next five years behind bars.

For Novoselov, this is not his first or even his second prison experience. He is believed to have joined the criminal world in the early 90’s and was sentenced to 14 years in prison in 1993 for murder.

And in 2012, Novoselov was sentenced to three and a half years in prison for patronizing the drug business.

By this time, he was already a fairly well-known fighter. He started to participate in underground wars even before his first term, continued this in prison and started his professional career after he was released on parole.

“Even boxing in prison was impossible. According to management, the more a person does it, the more dangerous it is. First, sport instills free thinking, plus you’re strong. And you don’t need any of them. We need you to be weak and sick so that they can grab you by the collar and throw you somewhere to work. Novoselov himself said that a thinking healthy person is not necessary.

– Accordingly, there is no need for fights, it is prohibited. How was it? They chose a more loyal kind of shift, or it was decided for the money. It was different each time. The fights were infrequent, not like a regular season. There were some clashes, one of them got caught. The convicts were interested in seeing themselves. Not all of them were, some were.

It is clear that I am not fighting some gonorrhea or tuberculosis. There were more or less warriors. What were they fighting for? I had nothing in particular. Respect such assumptions, which is the coolest. Someone had a fight over cigarettes and tea. There was no value for money. Tea, cigarettes, hot pot – there’s real money there. Everything in the cigarette was valuable.”

He entered the octagon five times from 2004 to 2010, having two wins, one draw and two losses. But after the second period, he won all nine of his fights in four years. True, the opponents were mostly inexperienced beginners, but at the same time, the famous American Jimmy Ambris, for whom this fight was the penultimate one in his career, got into the list of victims of Mad Max, as the athlete was nicknamed. by Japanese fans.

Novoselov gained particular popularity during the second period of imprisonment, when he persuaded the leadership of the colony to give places for gymnasiums, where he organized two gymnasiums, where he trained other prisoners.

Then the famous blogger and Pop-MMA fighter Mikhail Koklyaev came to the colony and shot a report, and several million people watched the video with Novoselov.

In 2019, Novoselov was supposed to hold the highest-rated fight against Vyacheslav Datsik in his career, but shortly before the fight, Datsik’s jaw was broken at the True Gym Fights tournament and the show did not take place.
