The International Football Federation (FIFA) penalized the Football Union of Serbia (FSS) for the flag of the country that owns the territory of Kosovo in the dressing room of the national team at the World Cup held in Qatar. AR.
The Serbian flag had the inscription “No surrender”, along with the country’s outline and state emblem. The Kosovo Football Federation had previously requested FIFA to punish its colleagues in Serbia for “an offensive act contrary to the values of football”.
Kosovo is a partially recognized country located on the territory of Serbia. The Russian Federation does not recognize the independence of the region.
The Serbian Federation will have to pay a fine of 20,000 Swiss Francs for this.
FIFA also fined the Croatian Football Association (HNS) 50,000 Swiss francs for a national team supporter’s banner insulting Canadian goalkeeper Milan Borjan, whose family fled the city of Knin after Croatian troops entered the country in 1995. A fan poster read: “Knin 95: no one can run as fast as Boryan.”
