The Executive Committee of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) at its next meeting approved recommendations on imposing sanctions on athletes from Russia and Belarus.
“The position has not changed, the protective measures in force since February remain in force. It would be wrong to go into details now. As IOC President Thomas Bach has said before, now is not the time to lift sanctions on Russia and Belarus,” said Mark Adams, IOC Communications Director TASS.
Recall that at the end of February, the International Olympic Committee addressed the international sports federations and recommended that Russian and Belarusian athletes not be allowed to participate in any competitions. Many events with the participation of foreign athletes were transferred from Russia.
Vitold Banka, head of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), who was re-elected for a second term, said earlier that the organization continued to support the IOC’s recommendation to bar Russia from participating in international competitions.
