Sweaty, disheveled and on the verge of crying, that’s how the last minutes of Gerald Martino as coach of the Mexican national team. The Argentinian himself confirmed his departure in the press room of the Lusail Stadium, after the match between Mexico and Saudi Arabia.
“I am responsible for this disappointment we have today,” Martino said after Mexico’s elimination in the group stage.
“My contract (with the FMF) expired when the referee ended the match and there is nothing else,” said Rosario.
Martino was in charge of the Tricolor project for almost 4 years and left a balance of led 64 games, 41 wins, 12 draws Y lose 11, immediately 67% effectiveness.
“Since my arrival I have worked in total freedom, without any interference from anyone. I thank the president and the sports directors for that,” he said.
