Apple VP Marketing Apple Greg Joswiak has confirmed that the iPhone 15 will get a USB-C connector instead of Lightning. Otherwise, the company would have to leave the EU market, where they recently passed a law on the subject.

Joswiak said the company has no choice, as it will have to obey lawmakers. He also clarified that Apple and the EU have a “minor disagreement” over the regulation of chargers, but went no further. At the same time, he noted that USB-C and Lightning are the most common connection standards today.
USB-C is expected to appear across the entire line of Cupertino smartphones next year, but in laptops it will be used as a charger until the end of 2024. In general, the transition to one standard will reduce the amount of electronic waste and make life easier for users who no longer have to search for different cables to charge.
