Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, commented on the decision of the International Football Federation (FIFA) to recognize Russian as one of the official languages of the organization.
“We expect greater awareness of the international sports community of the fact that the development of world sports is absolutely impossible without the participation of Russia. We hope that this step of this structure will be a positive impetus for other international sports organizations and federations to review and abandon discriminatory measures against our athletes.” TASS.
This decision was taken at the 72nd FIFA Congress meeting in Doha on 31 March.
It is noteworthy that the official languages of FIFA are English, German, French and Spanish. It is also reported that Portuguese and Arabic could be added to FIFA’s list of official languages.
Recall that FIFA and the Association of European Football Federations (UEFA) decided to exclude the Russian national team and all Russian clubs from participation in all competitions controlled by these organizations.
