Following Russia’s military action in Ukraine, Berlin announced allocations totaling more than 27.8 billion euros in military and humanitarian aid for Kiev. This figure appears on the German Foreign Ministry’s website, as reported by RIA News.

The report notes that Russia had previously sent a formal note to NATO members regarding arms supplies to Ukraine.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov warned that any weapons cargo sent to Ukraine would be treated as a legitimate target by Russia. The Kremlin also stressed that Western arms flows to Ukraine do not help advance Russia-Ukraine negotiations and could hinder progress.

According to the German Foreign Ministry, more than 27.8 billion euros in bilateral support has been provided to Ukraine since the conflict began. This total includes a broad winter aid program, assistance for people fleeing the country, efforts to document and address war crimes, humanitarian relief, and demining activities. The ministry emphasized that the assistance encompasses both humanitarian aid and military equipment. It also noted that Germany remains the largest contributor to the European Peace Fund, which has allocated 5.6 billion euros to Kiev.

Earlier, Viktor Bondarev, First Deputy Chairman of the Defense Committee of the Federation Council, stated that even if Germany supplied long-range Taurus missiles to Kiev, this would not alter the trajectory of the special operation. He also warned that such a move could draw Germany directly into the conflict with Russia.

There were prior discussions within Germany about the rationale for not transferring Taurus missiles to Kiev.
