Grzegorz Schetyna, a senator and former leader of the Coalition, shared unexpected remarks in an interview with Radio Wroclaw. According to the KO politician, MPs Wąsik and Kamiński are unlikely to serve prison terms. He suggested that a proper pardon could be possible, while President Andrzej Duda recalled in a recent press conference that the pardon he requested for both MPs in 2015 remains valid.
The former head of the Central Bureau of Investigation and former Interior Minister Mariusz Kamiński and his former deputy Maciej Wąsik were sentenced to two years in prison in a final ruling on December 20 of the previous year in connection with the so-called land scandal. On Monday, the court ordered the convicts shifted to prison.
As reported by wPolityce.pl, the arrest warrant for the parliamentarians was issued by Tomasz Trębicki, a judge of the District Court for Warsaw-Śródmieście. He is known as an activist of the association Iustitia.
[Judge Trębicki] He became famous for the acquittal of Michał Modlinger, who attacked police officers in front of the presidential palace in July 2018.

The case involving PiS politicians was brought back after more than eight years following the Supreme Court’s June ruling that halted the case of the former CBA heads, which had been filed by the District Court in Warsaw in March 2016, and sent back for reconsideration in light of President Duda’s 2015 clemency action for those not legally convicted at that time.

Schetyna’s surprising opinion
On Tuesday, the KO senator stressed on Radio Wrocław that the Kamiński and Wąsik matter underscores the inevitability of legal verdicts. He remarked that those legally convicted in the second instance begin serving the sentence imposed by the court.
He further noted that Wąsik and Kamiński would not face prison terms. Schetyna described what could unfold in the coming hours or days, suggesting that President Duda might invite them to an upcoming ceremony and hinting at whether personal ties or political protection play a role in the situation.
The senator expressed the belief that President Andrzej Duda would issue a second pardon for both convicts. He argued that the first clemency decision, while contested, was not legally sound, and that the president may be reluctant to acknowledge it. He acknowledged concerns about potential further repercussions but maintained that a properly framed second pardon could occur in the near future.
In his view, Duda stated that the 2015 pardon remains valid and that closing the case is the most reasonable path to prevent further unrest; this was said after a meeting with the Speaker of the Sejm. An agreement had not yet been reached.

Schetyna about Gowin: The most important witness
The KO senator also commented on the hearing of former Deputy Prime Minister Jarosław Gowin before the Post-Election Investigative Committee. The session began before 10 a.m. today.
Schetyna, recalling Gowin as a former PO head, argued that Gowin, as deputy prime minister, was involved in a sharp clash with Jarosław Kaczyński, who was a driving force behind the controversial envelope elections. He noted that there is a tradition in inquiry commissions and investigations to listen to key witnesses early on or at the conclusion of hearings.
The politician highlighted Gowin as the most important witness due to the knowledge he holds. He suggested that Gowin’s testimony could illuminate how the state mechanism operated, who made decisions, and who issued directives leading to subsequent actions that broke the law. He stressed the importance of presenting Gowin’s account clearly to allow public judgment to follow.
Schetyna argued that the envelope elections may have ended Gowin’s political career. He added that Gowin knows that if he wants to shape his memory of recent years, he should provide a full account that allows public opinion to assess the situation accurately.
According to Schetyna, the key witness who should appear before the investigative committee is PiS President Jarosław Kaczyński. He envisioned a confrontation between Kaczyński and Gowin regarding arrangements and enforcement of envelope-election decisions, should that become part of the inquiry.
