autonomous alliance
Following last Sunday’s election results and the call for a general vote on July 23, the United Left of the Country of Valencia (EUPV) anticipated the partner from the previous electoral round and has already signalled openness to Yolanda Díaz’s Sumar project for the upcoming vote, which is due in about two months. The group’s public statement begins by noting that the municipal and district elections held last Sunday inflicted significant harm on Valencian residents, especially the most vulnerable segments of society. It emphasizes that the inability to revalidate key constituencies brings a wave of democratic and social setbacks that had been achieved over the past eight years.
autonomous alliance
In its formation document, the party explains that the autonomous alliance it belongs to failed to meet the target, did not surpass the 5 percent electoral threshold, and thus did not secure representation in the Parliament or in the Valencian Courts. On the municipal front, EUPV claims a solid territorial footprint and a stable municipal core. It states that even before final tallies, there are more than 110 council seats and the likelihood of reappointing nearly a dozen mayors. Rather than presenting a triumph, the statement describes this as a tangible sign of the organization’s territorial growth and activist expansion, noting that it leads over Podemos and remains open to collaboration and alignment with them.
Compromís will meet with Sumar to lead the coalition in the Community
The message underlines that transformative leftist politics must extend beyond public administration and be capable of mobilizing voters through a compelling political project. It calls for accountability and open, collective deliberation as part of a self-critical and constructive assessment. Consequently, the EUPV executive commission plans to convene a National Political Council in the near future. This body will act as the top governing forum among the regional assemblies and will conduct an in-depth review of the recent results, the path ahead for the next electoral cycle, and the necessary agreements for the organization’s future and the general election process in alignment with Sumar.
loyalty
The EUPV announcement follows a day after the National Reconciliation Steering Committee approved forming a negotiating group with Sumar to guide the coalition project. The dialogue in Valencia emphasized two core ideas: building on what the Valencian Community wants and reaching Yolanda Díaz directly. Co-spokespersons Àgueda Micó and Alberto Ibáñez spoke after the meeting, saying their experience in political campaigns and the outcomes achieved empower them to pursue this step. Micó recalled that Compromís has previously joined electoral efforts with a cooperative, citizen-first approach intended to encourage voter turnout and stable cross-party support.
