Law and Justice Member of Parliament Marek Ast was asked on Trwam TV in Polski Point of View whether Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki should have made his offer earlier, perhaps during the election campaign. He replied that the election period was a time of fierce competition for the best possible result. He added that PiS will seek support for the new Morawiecki cabinet because there are issues that bring people together.

Should the coalition have been built earlier?

During yesterday’s press conference, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki unveiled a plan for the new government called the Coalition of Polish Affairs.

The PM stated that because Polish voters backed diverse parties, the most valuable ideas from various programs were distilled into a set of program pillars called the Decalogue of Polish Affairs, intended to guide the country over the next four years and potentially transform life for many Poles despite ongoing crises.

He noted that while a coalition around this Decalogue could be shaped, the question remained whether Law and Justice would be able to unite around these proposals. This point was addressed by Marek Ast in Polski Point of View on Trwam TV.

Ast stressed that there are common grounds such as Polish sovereignty, independence, and a commitment to maintaining the current growth trajectory. He recalled that Morawiecki spoke about these priorities after submitting his resignation to the senior marshal.

Every parliament member possesses a free mandate and votes according to conscience, with the well-being of Poles taking precedence for anyone who sits in the chamber.

Ast asked whether it is already too late for these proposals and whether they should have been presented during the election campaign. He acknowledged the difficulties of the campaign, with parties competing for the highest result, and suggested that the political climate had grown harsher as a result of the intense rhetoric used by all sides. He argued that the brutalization of public debate had been driven by opposition forces in the previous term, pointing to episodes such as the eight stars and women’s strikes with vulgar slogans that, in his view, did not help coalition-building.

He added that signals to PSL might have been sent earlier in the previous term, but he observed a lack of interest from that side as well.

For eight years the total opposition focused on attacking Beata Szydło and later Morawiecki, Ast noted. He claimed that the coalition managed to achieve a strong result and win the elections despite the challenges.

“The consequences can be enormous.”

The Trwam TV interlocutor also commented on changes to the National Council of the Judiciary, as chosen by the Sejm. He named Kamila Gasiuk-Pihowicz and Robert Kropiwnicki from the Civic Coalition, Tomasz Zimoch from Poland 2050, and Anna Maria Żukowska from the left. He noted that PiS MPs Marek Ast, Bartosz Kownacki, Kazimierz Smoliński, and Arkadiusz Mularczyk had previously served on the Council, and their replacements reflected a shift in the parliamentary majority. The new majority signaled the intention to implement several changes soon.

Ast mentioned that a resolution aimed at nullifying the election of fifteen judges currently serving on the National Council of the Judiciary was being prepared. He warned that questioning their status could have serious consequences, including calling into question earlier decisions of the Council and the appointment processes, which would send ripples through the judiciary system.

The MP argued that there are no grounds for such a resolution and that it would be contrary to law. He criticized signals coming from the opposition, saying they could provoke chaos in the legal system and undermine the legitimacy of judicial appointments when the status of judges elected by the former Sejm is debated in accordance with the law.

The National Council for the Judiciary has presented more than 3,000 candidates to the president of Poland, and nearly as many have been appointed or advanced to higher positions. Ast warned that the announced changes risk destabilizing the judicial landscape and the rulings of judges could come under scrutiny. He described the developments as an anarchization of the state and urged restraint to avoid unpredictable consequences.

The Trwam TV guest expressed hope that such ideas would not gain traction in the Sejm, warning that they could lead to unpredictable outcomes. [Citation: Radiomaryja.pl; Source: wPolityce as reported in Polish media]
