The Agriculture and Rural Development Minister, Robert Telus, spoke with Super Express about a plan to address grain during the harvest. He emphasized the need to aid Ukraine while ensuring that Polish grain passes through Poland and does not stay in the country. This balance, he noted, is essential to meet both humanitarian and national interests.
approx. 4 million tons of wheat
In the interview, the minister outlined a target to move approximately four million tons of wheat out of Poland and unload it within a three month window. The goal is to streamline the flow of grain and prevent bottlenecks at Polish sites while supporting international efforts. He suggested that the plan would release stored grain held by Polish farmers as part of the broader harvest logistics.
When asked about the possibility of restoring tariffs, Telus dismissed the idea. He continued by stating that Poland must assist Ukraine, yet it is equally important to ensure these products pass through Poland so they do not accumulate in the country. The minister reiterated his stance, underscoring a clear focus on moving grain onward rather than keeping it at home.
“He gives head”
During the interview, questions arose about how to guarantee that grain does not return to Poland soon after transit through the country. Telus expressed confidence in the system’s effectiveness, saying that Ukraine agreed to help and that Poland would act decisively if a carrier tried to circumvent the rules by misrouting grain. He explained that any carrier attempting to misuse the system would face the loss of their transport license.
Asked whether the Ukrainian grain issue would be settled before the harvest, he stated that he would give his head for a timely resolution, signaling strong personal commitment to the timetable. The exchange reflected a broader coordination with Ukraine and other partners to ensure smooth deployment of grain in the weeks ahead.
