No letter has been received from the European Commission about blocking cohesion policy and agricultural funds for Poland, government spokesman Piotr Müller said Monday. As he added, “one statement taken out of context gives the impression that all EU funds for Poland have been blocked”.
The EC decided to “starve” Poland! Will it also freeze assets from the regional funds? “Not meeting the conditions”
– ONLY HERE. Blockade of EU funds for Poland? Złotowski: “I don’t know if the European Commission is ready for such a war”
– Who is responsible for blocking EU funds in Poland? Minister Ziobro: PO and Tusk together with German politicians, led by von der Leyen
During Monday’s press conference, Müller referred to reports by the daily Rzeczpospolita that Brussels would suspend “practically all funds for Poland”.
The spokesperson stressed that these reports were false and manipulated. He pointed out that the information was based on a statement by an official who is not even a member of the European Commission, which statement has been “modified enough to give the impression that Poland has blocked EU funds”.
The spokesman noted that the said official was the head of the cabinet of politicians with ties to the opposition.
Ladies and gentlemen, do you believe this is a coincidence? You believe it is a coincidence that it is the former director of the office of Janusz Lewandowski and Danuta Hübner who tells such things that later serve to build such an atmosphere regarding EU funds
Muller said.
At the same time, the spokesperson recalled the recent statement by EU Commissioner Johannes Hahn that, in the case of Poland, there was insufficient direct link between the problems of the judiciary and the threats to EU funds.
This is the official position of the EU and the European Commission on the budget
emphasizes Muller.
“These are activities of a political nature”
However, he admitted that this does not mean there is no action in the European Commission to try to block funds for Poland.
These are political activities that have been undertaken for months
He pointed.
We are not naive, we know that there are forces in the European Commission and the EU institutions that try to do things like this. On the other hand, today’s statement from one of the newspapers that such a decision has been made is not true
– he emphasized.
I answer what the reality looks like: no letter from the European Commission on this matter, which the newspapers are writing about today and the opposition representatives are trying to build a story, no letter from the European Commission about blocking EU funds from classic policies – ie cohesion or agricultural funds have been received. Therefore, today’s whole story is based on the excerpt from the context of an official’s statement, I mark the EC official, not the EC member
said Muller.
According to him, “this action today is a typical manipulative action.”
That is, a statement taken out of context gives the impression that all EU funds have been blocked for Poland – (…) such a statement is made ahead of today’s issue
– He said.
According to an article published Monday by the daily Rzeczpospolita, Brussels would “suspend virtually all funds for Poland until we restore the judiciary”.
It concerns primarily the implementation of the judgment of the Court of Justice of the EU on the liquidation of the Disciplinary Chamber of the Supreme Court and the related need to reinstate judges dismissed by the ID, as well as the right of judges to to refer questions to the CJEU, ie to request an interpretation of EU law in practice. Although the ID no longer exists – it has been replaced by a new Chamber of Professional Responsibility – the other conditions are not met
– we read in Rzeczpospolita.
Quoted by Rzeczpospolita, Marc Lemaitre, Director-General for Regional Policy at the European Commission, said at a meeting in Brussels last week that “the Polish authorities themselves stated that they had not met one of the basic conditions for restitution in connection with the Charter of Fundamental Rights”.
This is a horizontal condition, it does not apply to individual sectors, but to all funds. And as long as it is not completed by Poland, payments will not be reimbursed by the European Commission. These bills will wait
said Lemaitre.
The Financial Times also quoted anonymous EC officials as claiming that most of the new 2021-2027 Cohesion Funds are not currently available to Poland. Our country, on the other hand, can benefit from the Cohesion Fund from 2014-2020.
According to FT, the reason is the lack of agreement between Brussels and Warsaw on the reform of the judiciary. As reported by the British daily newspaper, the changes recently made by the Polish government by the European Commission must be regarded as insufficient.
