Generalitat chief Ximo Puig confirmed yesterday that Consell will set up a €50m Forestry Cooperation Fund for crops in strategic areas and equipped with a “pioneer” hotline to prevent wildfires.

This was stated at the Civil Protection Achievement award ceremony in the category of public congratulations to all departments, organizations and individuals involved in extinguishing the major forest fires that occurred in Vall d’Ebo, Bejís this summer. Venta del Moro attended the meeting, which was also attended by Useres and Calles and Gabriela Bravo, Minister of Justice, Interior and Public Administration.

Puig noted in particular the need to create “economic and employment opportunity in this decade of transformation”, as well as the Community of Valencia’s natural heritage, which creates “a lung of oxygen in the face of new environmental challenge”.

five million for crops

In this sense, he explained that Consell’s fire prevention strategy envisions the creation of the new Forestry Cooperation Fund, which will allocate €50m to municipalities to improve forest maintenance, prevent fires and promote reforestation; 5 million euros in aid to farmers who grow or reclaim crops in areas of strategic forest value and attract new economic opportunities for the hinterland through the Avant Strategy and the new Llei Antidespoblament.
