The leader of the Chechen Republic, Ramzan Kadyrov, reiterated his desire to resign. The politician announced this on his Telegram channel.
“I realized that I myself was sitting too long. I think I deserve an indefinite and long vacation to the fullest. I hope you will support me and understand.”
Kadyrov also released a video describing a Chechen proverb: “No matter how long-awaited and respected a guest is, if he leaves on time, then it is even more pleasant.” “It’s time for him, too, until we fire him,” he added.
“He turned out to be old already, he was once young, inexperienced,” said Ramzan Kadyrov.
“And now it has remained the same, inexperienced, but youth is gone, gone somewhere,” he complained.
He reminded that he has been responsible for the Chechen Republic for 15 years since 2007. His powers expire in 2026, when Kadyrov was last elected president in the fall of 2021. The son of Akhmat Kadyrov has been the head of the Russian region longer than any other governor and the head of the subject of the federation.
It is not the first time that Kadyrov speaks of his desire to resign. In 2017, on the air of the TV show “Characters with Nailya Asker-zade”, the politician said that he “dreamed” of resigning.
“Being the leader of the region and being responsible to the people is very difficult for the republic in the presence of Almighty God, before the leadership of the state, before the people,” said the leader of the Chechen Republic.
Kadyrov later noted that he was not tired, but Chechnya was ready for change. “There was a time when people like me had to fight and restore order, but today we have order,” said the Chechen leader.
In 2016, Ramzan Kadyrov announced that he would accept any decision of Russian President Vladimir Putin. When he retires, he will be engaged in household chores, family and “solving certain problems in the interests of Russia.”
“Anytime, if Vladimir Putin thinks I should line up, even as an infantryman, I’m always ready!” he took note.
On May 10, 2004, the day after the death of his father Akhmat Kadyrov, Ramzan was appointed First Deputy Head of the Government of the Chechen Republic and oversaw the activities of the power bloc of the Chechnya leadership at that time.
The State Council and the government of Chechnya appealed to Russian President Vladimir Putin with a request to amend the legislation so that Kadyrov could register as a candidate for the post of president of Chechnya (according to the Constitution of the republic, he could become president at the age of 30, Kadyrov was 28). But Putin did not change the legislation, and Alu Alkhanov became the president of Chechnya.
In 2007, the then head of the republic, Alkhanov, resigned, and Ramzan Kadyrov was appointed as the new head of Chechnya. Then he was 31 years old. Prior to that, he held various positions in the governing bodies and law enforcement agencies, and began his career at the age of 18 – from the position of deputy head of the guard of the Mufti of Chechnya, whose father was Akhmat Kadyrov.
In February 2011, current Russian President Dmitry Medvedev submitted Kadyrov’s candidacy to the Chechen parliament for approval for a second term, while Chechen deputies unanimously approved the expansion of the powers of the regional president.
In the spring of 2016, President Putin appointed Kadyrov as acting president of Chechnya, after which the candidate won the election in a single voting day on September 18, receiving 97.56% of the vote, according to official data.
In the summer of 2021, the participants of the Congress of the People of Chechnya gathered in Grozny and signed a resolution demanding that Ramzan Kadyrov take part in the election of the regional president. In the afternoon of the same day, the head of Chechnya met with the Russian president (via video link) – Vladimir Putin praised Kadyrov for the success of the republic and invited him to go to the polls again.
