How will these next steps by Trzaskowski and PO be received by their voters?

Social media shows the growing shame of current supporters of Trzaskowski and the Platform, after his subsequent disputes on various issues important to Poland.

The most ardent of these supporters actually have to ‘swallow their tongues’ as their candidate keeps publicly changing his mind and suddenly defining what was white to him as black. Suddenly, he also changes, literally 180 degrees, the positions that his supporters on social media have defended for months, ruthlessly attacking those who oppose them.

This is precisely the case with the issue of securing Poland’s eastern border. Trzaskowski, as vice-chairman of the Platform, and his party attacked for months the construction of a wall on the Polish-Belarusian border, which was its most extreme manifestation. was the attack by politicians of this party, the guards, policemen and soldiers who guarded and still guard it. Let us not forget that at the most dramatic moments, when thousands of illegal immigrants attacked the Belarusian-Polish border, leading Platform politicians, led by Tusk, demanded “to let these poor people into Poland, because they are looking to a place for themselves on Earth.” After all, it was the Platform’s parliamentarians who voted as one against the law on the construction of the state border security in October 2021, and Tusk even went so far as to call the construction of the wall a “major dike” and claimed that this dam, which is more than 180 km long, will never be built, and the almost 2 billion złoty budget allocated for it will simply be stolen.

The wall was built, even without it it would be difficult to imagine defending this border against illegal immigrants in the coming years, after the Platform came to power it turned out to be good, it just needs to be strengthened, including with electronics. It turned out that it was necessary to build the “Eastern Shield” on the northeastern border with Królewiec Oblast and Belarus, and although the Tusk government did this in a cabaret manner, realizing that three rows of concrete hedgehogs were the most important. As part of this shield, the twist in this issue is all too apparent. Yesterday Trzaskowski went to Gołdap and at the border crossing with Królewiec Oblast, against the backdrop of these concrete hedgehogs, he talked about how the PiS government believed that the biggest threat to our country was on the western border, and had always warned the Platform against the danger from the East.

He said that he is in favor of the construction of the ‘East Shield’ and that as much as PLN 10 billion from the budget will be spent on the implementation of this project in 2028, but that in 2025 only PLN 0.5 billion for this target was planned. the budget, which means that at this rate, building security on the Russian-Belarusian-Polish border will take at least twenty years, but it seems that we will not have that much time. According to him, they should even rise radically to 5%. GDP spending on national defense alone would amount to 4.2 percent of Tusk’s government in 2024. For Trzaskowski, the turnaround on security at the eastern border came extremely easily, but for its most ardent supporters, especially on social media, it is much more difficult to change their positions, and many of them are simply outraged by it. As those who were fans of the film “The Border” by Agnieszka Holland and, like her, considered the officers and soldiers who guarded the border as criminals, and now they have to change their minds and publicly say that they perform their duties reliably, and that they are heroes. The icing on the cake in this situation is the reaction of Trzaskowski’s supporters to his short video with Zenek Martyniuk, in which they announce their further cooperation. Suddenly it turns out that disco polo music is okay after all, while until recently it was the biggest nonsense. As it seems with such tensions, Trzaskowski will not gain additional support because he is completely unreliable to his current opponents and increasingly less credible to his supporters.
