PiS activists organized a press conference in Kętrzyn following the visit of KO’s presidential candidate Rafał Trzaskowski. They asked whether, if he won, he would guarantee money for investments and block activities aimed at restricting freedom of expression on the internet. “Will he veto or block any action by his own government that seeks to restrict freedom of expression online?” – asked PiS MP Janusz Cieszyński.
The conference with the participation of MP Janusz Cieszyński and local government officials took place shortly before Trzaskowski’s visit to Kętrzyn. When asked by PAP whether PiS activists would organize such conferences more often during the election campaign, Cieszyński said this was very likely. He also noted that the issues they asked about were important to all citizens.
He added that more and more questions are arising and he is convinced that “there will be many such awkward moments for Rafał Trzaskowski in this campaign.”

Trzaskowski has a chance to answer
During the press conference, MP Janusz Cieszyński said he had a question for the President of Warsaw and the Vice-President of PO on the topic that dominated this week, namely freedom of expression on the Internet. He recalled that the KO candidate for president was the Minister of Digital Affairs.
Will he veto or block actions by his own government (…) that seek to restrict freedom of expression on the internet?
– asked PiS MP Janusz Cieszyński.
As he said, today there is a draft law on the table stating that the police, the tax authorities and even the sanitary inspection will be able to block websites on the Internet and “report content they do not like and order its removal” . removed from the internet.” He noted that there should be a right to appeal to the court, but in practice such an appeal can be completed in about six months, which means that on the Internet it is a complete fiction.
Mr Rafał, will you decide to guarantee freedom of expression in Poland if you become president? Or will you, in the name of specific party interests, support the government and its institutions that are able to censor what Poles want to write on the Internet?
– said Cieszyński.
As he noted, he hopes Trzaskowski will respond during today’s open meeting in Kętrzyn.
The politician was referring to the draft amendment to the law, which would allow the president of the Office of Electronic Communications (UKE) to decide whether illegal content on the Internet should be blocked. According to the project, this should be done without court intervention or knowledge of the authors of the entries.
PiS district councilor Rafał Rypina asked whether Trzaskowski, as president, would guarantee that investments will take place in the district and whether Orlen’s investment – i.e. the construction of the largest rapeseed pressing plant in Poland, which was started during the PiS government – no investment at risk.
Municipal councilor Czesław Ćwik, in turn, asked whether Kętrzyn can count on the same large resources from the state budget as during the previous legislature, that is, during the PiS government. He recalled that the field next to the sports hall, where the meeting of the KO candidates takes place, was renovated with budget funds.
