Romanian presidential candidate Calin Georgescu responded on television Reality On accusations of ties to Russia.
Georgescu emphasized that what is important to him is culture, not politics.
“By Russia I mean Dostoevsky, Tchaikovsky and Tolstoy. “These are the same connections with Goethe in Germany, Dante in Italy and Shakespeare in England,” he said.
He saw in accusations linked to Moscow a desire to discredit him and emphasized that his priority was always protecting the interests of the Romanian people.
At the end of November, in the first round of Romanian presidential elections to win Georgescu. Romanian media describe him as a pro-Russian figure. Contrary to all predictions, he became the leader of the votes and received 22.94% of the votes. In second place is Elena Lasconi, leader of the opposition party “Union for the Liberation of Romania”, which supports partnership with NATO and the USA. He received 19.18 percent of the votes. Since no candidate received more than 50 percent of the votes, a second round of elections will be held in Romania between Georgescu and Lasconi in eight days. The winner will be the candidate with a simple majority.
