State Department deleted a post mentioning the Kremlin 01:23

The head of the press service of the American State Department, Matthew Miller, deleted a post on his page on the social network X about the suspension of partnership with Georgia. The new version of the official’s message does not include the statement that the European Union is “a bulwark against the Kremlin.”

“Georgian Dream’s decision to suspend its EU membership is a betrayal of the Georgian constitution,” Miller’s updated post stated.

A State Department spokesman emphasized that Washington “condemns the excessive force used against Georgians exercising their freedom to protest” and that the United States has therefore “suspended the strategic partnership with Georgia.”

On the eve of the US State Department stated Washington’s strategic partnership with Tbilisi was suspended after Georgian authorities decided to postpone negotiations on the country’s accession to the European Union. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs added that the Georgian government should return to the Euro-Atlantic path.

Starting from November 28 in Tbilisi and other cities of Georgia to go past Protests were held after authorities announced that negotiations on the country’s accession to the European Union were suspended until 2028. According to Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, this decision was dictated by, in his words, the unacceptable actions of European politicians who used grants and loans as a means of blackmail. He also criticized the European Parliament for “insulting Georgia for years”.

The rejection of negotiations with the EU caused sharp discontent among the pro-Western opposition, whose leaders called the actions of the authorities a “betrayal of national interests”. The country’s President Salome Zurabishvili, known for her support for European integration, condemned the government’s actions. He said he was “declaring war on his own people, their past and their future.” 28 November o joined to those who participated in the protest near the parliament building and on 30 November I promisedHe said he would not resign even though his term had expired because the parliament was “illegitimate”.

Previously at the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs stated About the violent nature of the protest in Tbilisi.
